PocketParty turns iPod shuffle into tiny boombox
PodGear’s new PocketParty Shuffle is a new speaker system that turns an iPod shuffle into “the world’s tiniest ghetto blaster.” The iPod shuffle simply plugs into the top of the PocketParty via the headphone port. The device has two speakers and a status light on one side. It’s not clear if you’ll be able to control the iPod shuffle’s playback options with the PocketParty controls.
“Designed exclusively for the iPod shuffle, and taking design cues from the world’s most iconic flash MP3 player, the PocketParty can even be worn around the neck like the iPod itself,” the company says. It offers 1 watt of stereo output and up to 10 hours of battery life from a single AA battery. PodGear representatives said the PocketParty Shuffle will sell for £24.99 and should be ready within a month.

I think it would have been a better design if there was a female USB port located on the right side of the unit. From this port, you could extract top quality and volume audio from the shuffle as well as provide controls on the underside of the unit to control the music (play/pause/etc.) and control the on/off/shuffle switch. A good design, but still room for improvement.

Did no one teach the PR morons over at PodGear that “Ghetto” is not a PC term to be using for something as trivial as a shuffle speaker?
The term “Ghetto” describes, “a quarter of a city in which members of a minority group live especially because of social, legal, or economic pressure” and does not describe a racist board game, anything that looks “cheap”, juryrigged, or what have you, or a dumb little Shuffle speaker.

In the USA, maybe. But PodGear are based in the UK, where just about the only meaning attached to the word “ghetto” is the one they’re using… and anyway, it’s a joke, right?
